The Beginners Guide to Meditation
Are you new to meditation?
Meditation is a simple yet powerful practice that can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and improve your overall well-being. Its particularly helpful at times of conflict and challenge. If you’re new to meditation, here’s how you can get started:
1. Find a Quiet Space
Choose a peaceful spot where you won’t be disturbed. It could be a cosy corner in your home or a quiet space out in nature.
2. Sit Comfortably
Often when people think about meditating, they think they need to sit cross-legged on the floor - its totally up to you how you’d like to sit. Just find a position where you can feel relaxed but alert, whether on a cushion or seated in a chair.
3. Focus on Your Breath
Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths. Notice how your body responds, the gentle rise and fall of your chest or even the air moving through your nostrils.
4. Let Thoughts Come and Go
Your mind will wander, and that’s perfectly okay. Imagine them like clouds in the sky, watch them come and watch them go. Just gently bring your focus back to your breath without judgment.
5. Start Small
Begin with just a few minutes a day and gradually increase as you feel more comfortable.
Meditation is a practice, not perfection. The more you do it, the more benefits you’ll experience. Give it a try and enjoy the stillness!
